1.1 What is Peak Performance?
Do you ever think of people at the very top of their fields, maintaining excellence over a long period of time? Year after year, time after time, they constantly deliver results, no matter the resources at their disposal. Getting to the top is difficult, but staying there is even more difficult. This state is known as “Peak Performance”. Dr. Gregg Wells defines peak performance as the “state and zone of optimal functioning and flow, when everything flows, and you achieve exceptional performance”.
It is also the feeling of superior functioning where an individual’s performance transcends the ordinary. It is having an unwavering attitude, along with detailed and committed preparation to achieving personal & collective success.
Peak performance is not a new term and is not exclusive to performance of athletes; rather, it is a concept that embodies the leaders of today and when mastered, can empower the leaders of tomorrow/ the future.
The concept was initially defined by psychologist Abraham Maslow in 1964, defining peak experiences - individual experiences, feelings of total unity, inner strength, and wholeness of being in his context of the hierarchy of needs.
In this module we will explain what a peak performer is, why it is beneficial to develop your skills to become a peak performer, and offer you tools and resources to take the right steps to personal growth and peak performance.
